Goodbye Dear Westcott Place Farm

Westcott Place

Down Main Street with a turn on FIRST
There is a very special place that can make my heart BURST

With anticipation you head down the LANE
See the lovely front pasture and a beautiful horse MANE

The white fence to the brick barn that reads Westcott PLACE
An invitation to step in and jump out of the rat RACE

To the left the charming farmhouse solidly stands representing
history, family & TRADITION
an unlikely farmer married a radio name and to make it their
own was their MISSION

She had been born there and was thrilled to be
back to her ROOTS
They kicked off their city shoes and put on their BOOTS

They had three precious daughters each two years APART
All dressed the same they stole everyone’s HEARTS

Ten years later a son…their family was COMPLETE
This life on the farm couldn’t be BEAT

The dining room has drawn many to celebrate and GATHER
When filled with family and friends…there’s no place I’d RATHER

Tall pocket doors lead into the green room…then to the parlor to
hear the piano PLAY
The ornate staircase railing is so fun to slide down or the
claw foot tub at the end of the DAY

A bowl of raisin bran, an orange and a post office WALK
Then back to the home of the Crusader to inform on the
 news and the TALK

To light every window she hand dipped a CANDLE
And for her column “Dear Heart” was her HANDLE

Teenagers brought magazine covered walls and a
Camaro filled BARN
Rings tossed over shoulders and ponies upstairs
caused some ALARM

After moving all around the US one daughter came back with her MAN
To bring rejuvenation and life back to where it all BEGAN

They worked so hard and shared it with ALL
Golf carts, 4-wheelers, trails, bonfires, barn dances….we all had a BALL

There’s lots of porch sitting sharing stories and ADVICE
Soaking up wisdom from the previous generations is so NICE

Looking out at the old maple tree and the tire SWING
Hearing the kiddos giggle and SING

Showing off skills at the talent SHOW
Or escaping to Camp Jubilee…no one will KNOW

The cornfield and windmill are in the VIEW
Lights on the a cross remind us “I love YOU”

I am so very thankful and lucky to have been PART
And to have all these memories of Westcott Place Farm
 down deep in my HEART

Grandma in her younger years

still BEAUTIFUL at 95

When I asked Grandma her favorite place at
the farm she said "the front walkway from the
lane to the front entrance"

We got to all go together for one last trip to the
farm.  It has been in the family for over 100
years.  Grandma Rhodes was born there 95 years ago!
My Mom and her siblings grew up there.
Aunt Connie and Uncle Bob have lived there
and welcomed all of us for 20+ years!
Miranda Lambert sings:
"I know they say you can't go home again,
I just had to come back one last time."
That's what we got to do!
One wonderful last trip!

They said the Pledge of Allegiance
and then serenaded Grandma with one of
her favorite Easter songs... "Easter Parade"
"In your Easter bonnet
with all the frills upon it"
